Neil advises a wide range of financial institutions, private equity sponsors, borrowers and FinTech companies with respect to financing transactions, financial products and regulation.

Neil is a Partner in the Banking and Finance team. The focus of his practice is on corporate banking, structured finance, corporate finance as well as financial products and regulation. 

Neil joined LK Shields from the banking and financial services department of another leading firm in Dublin. He has experience of many high-profile and high-value transactions in his former position and at LK Shields Solicitors. He regularly acts as local counsel for multi-national loan facilities and debt issuances.

Experience

  • Acted for Ding in its $25m leveraged acquisition facilities from AIB that was the Finance Dublin 2015 Mid Market Deal of the Year.
  • Acted for the MBO team in its €30m financing of its purchase of Elverys out of Examinership (Chapter 11) which was the Finance Dublin 2014 Mid Market Deal of the Year.
  • Acted for Kendrick Investments Ltd in financing it's acquisition of circa €400m syndicated loan and trade finance facilities owed by Topaz and it's related companies to IBRC (formerly Anglo Irish Bank), which was the Finance Dublin 2013 Deal of the Year.
  • Acted in 2017 for Swiss Privee in connection with its investment in Plynk, a FinTech payment messaging app. 
  • Acted in 2016/17 for a large Superannuation fund in respect of its investment in a regulated investment fund through a structured finance product. 
  • Acted in 2017 for a long established European private bank in relation to its regulated operations in Ireland. 
  • Acted in 2016/17 for Goldman Sachs and CarVal SPVs in respect of portfolios of loan sales and distressed loan restructurings.
  • Acted in 2016/17 for Pepper Asset Services and Capita Asset Services in respect of their credit servicing operations.
  • Acted in 2016 for Bank of Ireland in respect of the €20m financing of the construction of 180 residential houses.
  • Acted in 2017 for AIB in respect of its €12m refinancing of a large nursing home involving capital allowances arrangements.
  • Acted in 2015 for Topaz in its leveraged acquisition facilities to purchase Esso Ireland.
  • Acted in 2016 AIB in respect of €30m financing of Irish hospitality group.
  • Acted in 2015 for Bank of Ireland in respect of €40m financing of International group of industrial companies.
  • Acted in 2015 for the pension trustees of a large multi-national pharma company in putting in place complex contingent asset arrangements for a circa €80m deficit in a defined benefit pension scheme.
  • Acted in 2016 in respect of a €65m loan note programme issued by a Davy investment fund.
  • Acted in 2017 as lead counsel to a large property developer consortium in relation to the circa €80m Bank of Ireland financing to a Qualifying Investor Fund.
