Richard has extensive experience in corporate finance transactions.

Richard is a Partner in the Corporate and Commercial Department, having joined the firm as a Partner in 2005.  Richard practices in the areas of corporate finance and projects.

In corporate finance transactions, Richard has acted for both buyers and sellers in M&A transactions across all sectors as well as advising in private equity transactions and shareholder arrangements.  He also advises clients on the Takeover Rules.

In project finance transactions, Richard has experience of public private partnership (PPP) and other PFI-type transactions across several sectors, including healthcare (hospitals and primary care facilities), education (schools) and transport (rail and roads).

Richard began his career at another leading Dublin firm and recently spent five years working in London and Berlin with Hammonds, a leading UK law firm (now part of Squire Patton Boggs).

Experience

  • Acted for Bemis Company, Inc. in the acquisition of the medical device packaging operations and related value-added services of SteriPack Group, an Irish owned global manufacturer of sterile packaging solutions for medical device and pharmaceutical applications.
  • Acted for the shareholders of Studentuniverse.com Inc. in the sale of the company to Flight Centre Group plc, the Australian publicly listed travel group. StudentUniverse.com is a leading online travel booking service for the student and youth sector.
  • Advised long standing client OASIS Group, a leading records and information management firm on the acquisition of the former Wincanton Ireland business from UK plc Restore Group.
  • Acting for Helix Medical in relation to its recent investment in Cambus Teoranta, a medical devices manufacturer based in Galway. Helix Medical, which is part of the Freudenberg Group, is a global custom manufacturer for the medical device and healthcare industries.
  • Acted for Egis Road Projects in the acquisition of the operation and maintenance interests in the M1, M7/8 and N25 PPP contracts from NTR.
  • Advsied the Aer Lingus Pilots on the takeover of Aer Lingus Group plc by IAG plc.
  • Acted for Kendrick Investments Limited on the acquisition of senior debt facilities of the Topaz Group from IBRC (in special liquidation).
  • Acted for a major French roads maintenance and operations contractor on various PPP road concession arrangements in Ireland.
  • Acted for a major German conglomorate on its bid for a DBFOT contract for a fuel farm facility at Dublin airport.
  • Acting for Tedcastles in relation to it participation in the NRA Roads Service Stations PPP.
  • Richard spent time on secondment with London Underground assisting on the implementation by way of PPP of the part privatisation of the infrastructure and assets of the London Underground network.
  • Advised London Underground on the extension of the Piccadilly Line to Heathrow Terminal 5.
  • Acting for Keolis SA, a French light rail transport operator, on its bid for the Metro North PPP operating contract as a part of a bidding consortium.
