Shane advises on many aspects of general and commercial litigation and dispute resolution.

Shane is a Partner in our Litigation and Dispute Resolution Department, having begun his career in LK Shields Solicitors.

He has acted in a wide range of commercial disputes, including energy/oil industry disputes, insurance/policyholder disputes, professional indemnity disputes, insolvency disputes and large-scale banking disputes. 

His experience includes not only dealing with large-scale disputes before the Commercial Division of the High Court but also before the newly formed Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court.

He is a member of the Commercial Litigation Association of Ireland, Law Society of Ireland's Professional Indemnity Insurance Committee and the Dublin Solicitors’ Bar Association. 

Experience

  • Acting before the Commercial Court regarding a multi-million-dollar oil and gas discovery in North Africa.
  • Acting on behalf of a large oil company in respect of disputes with Irish customers.
  • Acting on behalf of an international law firm which had a substantial commercial dispute with one of its Irish service suppliers.
  • Acting on behalf of a large financial institution in recovery actions against corporate customers.
  • Advising professional indemnity insurers in respect of policy interpretation (with a particular emphasis on the statutory regulation of professional indemnity insurance for solicitors in Ireland).
  • Acting on behalf of Irish and foreign professional indemnity insurers in respect of claims against solicitors and engineers.
  • Acting for large employers and their insurers in respect of employer liability claims.
  • Acting on behalf of Irish insurers in pursuing subrogated recovery claims against third parties.
  • Advising well-known insurers concerning policy disputes with their clients and acting in associated legal proceedings and arbitrations.
  • Acting in arbitrations involving some of the firm’s largest clients.
  • Acting for clients in successful mediation of commercial disputes.
  • Acting on behalf of financial institutions in respect of actions against solicitors for breach of undertaking.
  • Acting on behalf of major waste collection companies regarding appeals to the conditions of single-region and multi-region waste collection permits.
  • Advising a number of receivers in respect of their appointments by financial institutions over corporate and personal assets.
  • Advising receivers regarding landlord and tenant disputes.
