Cian specialises in Construction Law and has wide experience advising clients on their infrastructure, construction, energy and commercial legal requirements both contentious and non-contentious.

Cian is experienced in the use of all the main standard form construction contracts used within the Irish market, including RIAI, Public Works, NEC, JCT and FIDIC. Cian previously worked in-house in a large multi-disciplinary construction and engineering company in Western Australia.

Cian also practices in Corporate and Commercial Law, advising clients in relation to mergers and acquisitions, commercial contracts, joint ventures and public private partnerships.

Cian is a frequent contributor to the Construction, Engineering and Energy Law Journal and has spoken at industry events in relation to the use of performance bonds in construction.

Experience

  • Advised Kajima Ireland Limited in relation to the development and financing of a new 258-home residential scheme in Belmayne, Dublin.
  • Acted for a global asset manager in the drafting and negotiation of a building contract and design team appointments for a commercial office extension.
  • Advising on funder requirements in construction projects across multiple sectors.
  • Advising sureties in relation to demands made under performance bonds.
  • Advising on administration and claims management procedures across the RIAI and PWC standard forms of contract.
  • Acted in multiple employer/contractor final account mediations and settlements.
  • Advising on adjudication procedures under the Construction Contracts Act 2013.
  • Advised Centric Health in the formation of a joint venture with Irish Life to provide access to a new healthcare service in the community.
  • Advising on investments in the social housing, student housing and healthcare sectors. 
  • Advised an investor on the acquisition of shares in companies operating in the EV sector.
  • Advised an Irish group of companies in connection with an internal group merger by acquisition.
