GDPR: The new data protection regulation – mandatory rules for employers

Past Event: This event happened on Monday, 07th November 2016.

Deirdre Kilroy to Speak at Data Protection Event in Dublin on 7 November 2016.

The EU has enacted a new regulation on data protection: the General Data Protection Regulation or GDPR. This regulation introduces a single set of rules which will apply to employers in all EU member states.

The new laws will come into force in May 2018. They will have a direct impact on all employers and employees. In advance of this date all European businesses need to consider how the new rules will affect them and must make advance preparations to ensure compliance.

Ius Laboris, the Global HR Lawyers group, is organising a series of seminars across Europe for employers to explain the new rules and how they will affect employment relationships.

On 7 November, in Dublin, employment and data protection law experts from across Europe will explain the impact of the GDPR, with a particular focus on its impact on employers in Ireland – followed by an open discussion at which you can ask questions pertinent to your business.

Seminar topics include:

  • What new rules will the GDPR introduce for your business in a HR context?
  • What new duties will you have as an employer because of the GDPR?
  • What information must you give your employees under the GDPR?
  • Do you need to appoint a data protection officer before May 2018?
  • What happens if you breach the GDPR?
  • Penalties – how bad can it get?
  • What are the practical and operational steps you should take to prepare for the GDPR today?
