The Energy and Natural Resources Unit within LK Shields Solicitors
assists and guides a client list that boasts a wide variety of Irish
and international clients in the areas of law relating to energy
and natural resources. LK Shields Solicitors has been involved in
several of the recent most significant energy and natural resource
sector developments in Ireland.

expertise the firm has acted for developers of wind farms both in
Ireland and overseas, including the largest private renewable energy
provider in the State. We are carving out an excellent reputation
in the niche area of wind farms. We have also been involved in a
number of CHP projects, district heating schemes, waste management
projects and tyre recycling projects reflecting our reputational
growth in this area.
Given the current consolidation in the market we have more recently
been involved in a number of high profile mergers and acquisitions
in the energy area.

Recent Experience and Expertise
- We acted for Tedcastles Oil in its acquisition of Fate Park
Limited, one of the leading oil distribution companies in Ireland.
- We acted for the owners of Sorne Wind on the development of
a 38.9 MW wind farm and the onward sale once completed to Bord
Gáis Eireann. This represents probably the largest onshore wind
farm disposal in Ireland in 2009.
- We acted for Englefield Capital in relation to its €30 million
equity investment through its vehicle Rockfield Energy Investment
LLP in Imperative Energy Limited.
The transaction completed in August 2009.
- We continue to act for Airtricity in all aspect of the Coomatallin
and Richfield Wind Farm project to bring matters to a financial
close.
- We advise Star Energy plc and Petronas in relation to the acquisition
of Marathon Oil Ireland Limited and Marathon Seven Heads Limited
and the related option arrangements entered into with Providence
Resources. The assets sold included the Kinsale Head area comprising
Kinsale Head South West Kinsale and the Ballycotton Gas Fields
as well as the Seven Heads Fields and related gas storage business.
The transaction completed in 2009.
- We are currently acting for the promoters of a number of wind
farms ranging from 5 MWs to 12 MWs.
- We continue to act for energy and facilities management company,
Dalkia Ireland, part of the Veolia Group, and providing advise
on the area of district heating schemes and on a number of acquisitions
in the energy area.
- We acted for Biopower plc in relation to its public offering
to raise fund for biomass recycling centres.
- We are currently advising Geothermal Energy Limited on legislative
issues relevant to geothermal energy in Ireland.
- We acted for TOP in an investment in Alternative Energy Resources
Limited - a biofuel company.
- We have acted for companies such as Island Renewable Energy
and Geothermal Energy Limited in investment funding rounds.
- We act for companies active in mineral exportation in Ireland
and advise on mining license issues.
- We recently advised Belmore Resources on mining issues in Ireland,
and most recently in a placing of shares with Lundin Mining Corporation
Limited.
- We advised Braemer Energy Ventures LP in a VC investment in
Powervation, a company active in
cleantech electronic systems technology.
